Party of European Socialists (PES) President Sergei Stanishev has cautiously welcomed the announcement by Herman Van Rompuy that the European Council, meeting this Thursday and Friday, will dedicate billions to tackling youth unemployment, particularly in the hardest hit regions.

PES Secretary General Achim Post meets Lithuanian Prime Minister

At the Party of European Socialists (PES) headquarters in Brussels, PES Secretary General Achim Post and Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius met to discuss the European challenges and projects ahead for the progressive family. Lithuania will take the EU Presidency baton from Ireland in the second half of 2013. The new presidency will build upon the Cypriot and Irish presidencies in order to further develop a progressive solution to the crisis.

Poul PES More gender equality is needed as a response to the current economic and financial crisis! PES
PES Women held its executive meeting last weekend in Lisbon. As progressive feminists in Europe, it is our responsibility to take into consideration one major point when talking about the crisis: the impact on women of austerity-only policies put in place in Europe by the Conservative governments. We focused on the impact of the economic and financial crisis on women. Executive members agreed that one of the most pressing issues was closing the widening gender pay gap due to the crisis.
