Árni Páll Árnason

Árni Páll Árnason

Árni Páll Árnason was born on 23 May 1966.

He has been a member of the Althingi (Icelandic Parliament) for the Southwest Constituency since 2007. Currently he is the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and he also integrates the EU-Iceland joint Parliamentary Committee.

Between 2009 and 2010, Mr. Árnason served as Minister of Social Affairs and Social Security, before becoming Minister of Economic Affairs (2010-2011). 

In February 2013 he was elected leader of the Social Democratic Alliance of Iceland, succeeding Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir.
