Bruno Tobback

Bruno Tobback

Bruno Tobback was born on the 22 August 1969 in Leuven, Belgium. In 1992, he graduated from the Flemish Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) with a degree in Law. In 1994, he specialised in social & economics law at the University of Ghent. In 1992, he worked as an intern at the European Commission for Karel Van Miert. Called to the Bar, he practiced law until 2001. Mr. Tobback launched his political career in 1995 as a provincial councillor in Flemish-Brabant and as a member of the Flemish Parliament from 1995 to 2004. In 2004, he became the federal Minister for Environment and Pensions. In 2007, he was appointed as a federal member of the Trade and Economic Committee. In 2007, he was elected chairman of the Flemish socialist party in Leuven. On September 18, 2011 he was elected Leader of the Flemish socialist party (Sp.a).
