The PES stands for a sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally aware European Union. For years it has been our declared goal to combat the effects of climate change and transform the European economy into a modern, knowledge-based, low-carbon economy that is prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. These positions have been a building block in the PES’ Common Manifesto during the 2014 European Parliament elections and have furthermore been confirmed in the PES Fundamental Programme (2013), during the 9th PES Congress in Brussels (September 2012), and at meetings of the PES environment ministers and of the PES Environment and Climate Change Network. The PES will continue to work towards achieving these goals on all European, national, and regional levels.

Today, Maros Sefcovic (PES), European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union presented the Commission’s ‘Energy Union winter package’ to strengthen and modernise the EU energy framework and make it more resilient against interruptions from or to external gas suppliers.

5.7 million young people are currently unemployed in Europe and an additional 1.5 million are forced into precarious jobs. In some countries as many as one young person out of two cannot find a job.
