He not only pledged the Conservatives to holding an in-out referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union if they win this spring’s general election, he also struck the most defiantly pro-European line of any Tory leader since John Major.

Power to women: my body, my rights

2015 is an important year in the fight for women’s rights. It marks 20 years since women around the world celebrated the Beijing Platform for Action at the United Nations’ ‘Fourth World Conference’. Yet, 20 years after Beijing, as the UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said at the opening of Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York on 9 March, not a single country around the world has achieved gender equality.

United against fear – PES leads fight against Radicalisation and protecting the rule of law

Condemning the dreadful attacks in Paris and other cities, PES Leaders met in February in Madrid to declare their strong stance against radicalisation and the politics of fear. United they agreed on a broad approach to fight for just, inclusive and peaceful societies in Europe. “As progressives, we must fight for social cohesion, inclusion and against ghettoisation and the stigmatisation of any community,” said PES Deputy Secretary Marije Laffeber, summarizing the clear goals.
