Jutta Urpilainen

Jutta Urpilainen

Jutta Urpilainen was born in 1975 in Lapua, Finland. She graduated with a master in education in 2002, working as a school teacher the next years. Advisor to a Member of the Parliament, from 2001 to 2003 she was also President of JEF (Young European Federalists) Finland. She was elected in 2003 to the Finnish Parliament and ever since she integrated several committees as a member of the Social Democratic (SDP) Parliamentary Group. She is since 2003 member of the Committee on Education and Culture and more recently she entered as well the Advisory Council of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs. Jutta Urpilainen was elected leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland in June 2008, succeeding former deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Eero Heinaluoma.
