PES Women President met with a delegation from India

Yesterday, I welcomed to the PES headquarters an Indian delegation of gender experts invited by the Brussels office of the Friederich Ebert Stiftung (FES) with whom PES Women has had numerous meetings and possibilities of cooperation in Brussels and Budapest. I was pleased to see that this delegation of gender experts was a mixed group of women and men working on women’s rights issue, an important signal that gender equality is a common objective.

This meeting organised by FES – to strengthen and encourage relations between women and men globally - is part of the dialogue programme on “Policies of EU on women empowerment and gender mainstreaming” for a delegation of gender experts from India. The delegation stays one week in Brussels and also meets with Members of the European Parliament, representatives of the EU Commission and the EEAS as well as with Brussels based-CSOs and think tanks. The general focus of this visit is the EU-India relations as well as EU decision making and legislation on gender equality and mainstreaming.

More precisely, our meeting was about the policies of the EU on women political empowerment. I therefore presented briefly PES Women’s priorities ahead of the 2014 European Parliamentary elections as well as our achievements of the past 20 years.
