Shelly Yachimovich

Shelly Yachimovich

Shelly Yechimovich was born on March 28, 1960. She graduated with a degree in behavioural science from the University of Ben Gurion. Before entering politics, she worked in broadcasting as a television and radio reporter. In October 2000, Shelly joined the news company channel 2, where she hosted ‘Meet the Press’. Throughout her career she has shown an interest in socio-economic issues. In 2005, two weeks after Amir Peretz was elected Leader of the Israeli Labor Party, she decided to pursue a political career, and presented her candidature for the 17th Knesset. She was duly elected (9th on the list) and became a member of parliament. Shelly Yechimovich has been an active legislator and has succeeded in passing 17 labour laws. She is the author of “Eshet Ish" (Keshet, 2001) and "Mishakey Zuggot" (Keshet, 2003). In September 2011, she was elected Leader of the Israeli Labor Party.
