Sylvana Rapti

Sylvana Rapti was born on 10 November 1958 in Kerkyra, Greece. She has a degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Athens.

Ms Rapti has worked as a journalist in the national television channel ET2 (1982-1990) and in the newspapers TA NEA and TO VIMA (1983-2004).

She was a Municipal Counselor for Athens from 1982 to 1986 and became a member of the Greek Parliament in the 2004 national elections, being re-elected in 2007.

A member of the PASOK Central Committee since 1984, she is also a member of the party’s Political Bureau in 2006. In 2004, Sylvana Rapti helps founding the Board of PASOK's Institute for Continuing Education, where she still sits.

In 2009 she was elected to the European Parliament, where she is currently a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.
