Victor Ponta

Victor Ponta

Victor Ponta was born on 20 September 1972 in Bucharest, Romania. He has a degree in Law from the University of Bucharest and has a PhD in International Penal Law. He worked as Prosecutor in the Prosecutor’s Office/Supreme Court of Justice between 1998 and 2001. In 2002 he was elected President of the Youth Organisation within the Social Democratic Party, a post he fulfilled until 2006. In 2004 Ponta was elected MP for the Gorj County and two years later he was appointed Vice President of the Standing Bureau in the Chamber of Deputies. He became Vice-President of the Social Democratic Party in 2006 and from 2008 to 2009 he was Minister of Relations with the Parliament. Victor Ponta was elected Chairman of the Romanian Social-Democrat Party (PSD) in February 2010.
